R8's been stripped out

We recently brought you news of the hardcore MTM R8 GT-3 from Germany (if you missed it, check out the supercar news round-up with Caroline in the main player). It's basically a stripped-out, hard-core, rear-wheel drive supercar. But now, Audi has officially unveiled a more performance-based version of its R8 supercar (as if it needed more power). Badged the R8 GT, it has shed 100kg from the V10’s kerb-weight. Twin the crash-diet with a 35hp performance boost – now 560hp, and there’s little doubt the GT will go like stink. 0-62mph takes just 3.6 seconds and top speed 199mph, to be precise. It retains the rear-biased four-wheel-drive system though unlike the MTM. Other tweaks include a lower and manually adjustable suspension, plastic rear windows and lighter windscreen glass. It’s very much the case of less is more - less weight, more price. The R8 GT will set you back around £40k more than the standard £143k asking price. Oh, and the UK will only get 33 versions, so if you want one, you’ll have to be quick.
